NYC’s 10 Best Free Events & Attractions Week of August 23rd to the 27th, 2010 (Monday to Wednesday)

Monday, August 23

5:00 PM (movie starts at sunset) – HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival – Bonnie and ClydeBryant Park.  Lawn opens 5:00 PM and the movie starts at sunset.  Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Gene Hackman are gangsters on the run.

6:00 PM to 7:00 PM – Clinton Concert Series with Stephen Beasley ProjectHudson River Park’s Pier 84 at 44th Street.  A combination of soul, funk, world music, and rock sounds.

7:30 PM – Caribbean Night with Sean Paul The King of Calypso and the Mighty SparrowWingate Park, Brooklyn.  Jamaican dancehall reggae superstar Sean Paul performs with special guests.

10:00 PM – Nasty Mondays at the Gallery at Le Poisson Rouge158 Bleecker Street, between Thompson Street & Sullivan Street.  A well known Barcelona scene comes to Manhattan.  Features DJ mixes from the 50s, 80s, 90s, and today.  Open vodka bar from 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Tuesday, August 24

11:00 AM to 7:00 PM -  Live evian Photo Shoot with Maria SharapovaOpenHouse Gallery, 201 Mulberry Street. Live photo shoot with Maria Sharapova.  US Open tickets and t shirts available for select attendees.

8:00 PM – Central Park Conservancy Film Festival presents Fame (1980).   Movies shown nightly from August 24th to August 28th in Central Park’s landscape, just north of the Great Lawn behind Mineral Springs.  Space opens 6:30 PM, bring a picnic.  No alcohol allowed and bags subject to search.  A classic 80s flick about students at the New York City High School for the Performing Arts.

Wednesday, August 25

8:00 PM – Central Park Conservancy Film Festival presents Taking of Pelham 123 (2009).   Movies shown nightly from August 24th to August 28th in Central Park’s landscape, just north of the Great Lawn behind Mineral Springs.  Space opens 6:30 PM, bring a picnic.  No alcohol allowed and bags subject to search.  A remake of the classic 70s film starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta where a subway train is hijacked for ransom.
