New York City’s 10 Best Concerts in February, 2010

New York City’s selection of concerts to see each month is endless.  Below are some of the biggest and best concerts in New York City in February 2010.

Many NY concerts might sell out quickly in February.  Look online for 3rd party sellers like stubhub, ebay, or craigslist for concert tickets.

10.  ChevelleThe Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Place between 15th and 16th.  The Fillmore is the perfect size venue, holding about 1,000 people, for the Chicago based trio called Chevelle.  Chevelle definitely has a Tool sound to them with their vocals, use of guitar, and bass guitar.  Other influences include Helmet and The Cure.

9.  YesTown Hall, 123 West 43rd Street, Theater District. February 13th & 14th at 8:00 pm.  Although they have acquired new members over the years, this band has been around over 40 years.  Yes‘ huge success in the 70s and their take on rock music called progressive rock, a style incorporating classical, jazz, and world music elements, influenced future groups like Phil Collin’s Genesis providing Yes with a large following to this day.

8.  Citizen CopeMusic Hall of Williamsburg, February 10-11 & Bowery Ballroom, February 12-14.  Citizen Cope combines blues, jazz, soul, hip hop, and folk music.

7.  YeasayerBowery Ballroom, February 8th,  & Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, February 9th.  Yeasayer is an experimental band from Brooklyn with a unique sound not heard elsewhere.  They combine their sound with a light show for a memorable visual and music performance.

6.  David Ostwald’s Louis Armstrong Centennial BandBirdland, 315 W 44th St, between Eighth Ave and Ninth Ave, Midtown.  Wednesday’s 5:30 to 7:30pm.  Come hear traditional New Orleans jazz led by Tuba player David Ostwald.
