10 Best Dive Bars in the East Village & LES
5. Drop Off Service. 211 Avenue A between 13th and 14th. Locals joint. Excellent beer selection. Sit in the window with your beverage and watch the B&Ters stumble by.
4. Bar on A. 170 Avenue A on the corner of 11th. Nice place to come with a group–plenty of space and reasonable crowds. A much better option than the alterna-clone hangout across the street.
3. Motor City Bar. 127 Ludlow between Rivington and Delancey. This joint is all about Detroit. Very cool during the week–never crowded but never empty. Great place for drunken pinball.
2. Cherry Tavern. 441 E. 6th between First Avenue and Avenue A. Dirty and divey. Crowded on weekends, but chill during the week. A few booths tucked in a dark corner for those desiring privacy. Pool table. MGMT in heavy rotation on the jukebox.
1. Boxcar Lounge. 168 Ave B between 10th and 11th. Narrow and dimly lit, with a few couches–perfect for snuggling with your girl. Never too crowded. Ask the barkeep to play the Doobie Brothers on the house stereo. Or REO Speedwagon.

I LOVE motor city, my girlfriend grew up in Michigan– enough said. Not your typical pretentious LES overpriced overcrowded “we’re too hip for you” crowd– just legit cool folks
Never been to Motor City or Detroit, but sounds like a spot I need to check out!
