5. The Comfort Diner. 214 East 45th Street, Midtown. Offers all the standard diner dishes, all of them better than a standard diner. Not the cheapest diner in Manhattan but well worth the low price. For brunch try the breakfast burrito or their version of Eggs Benedict with bacon.
4. Zucco Le French Diner. 188 Orchard Street, LES. A small, cozy French take on a diner. Very few seats, no more than 10 or 12. The kitchen is open so you can watch the cooks work. The owner takes your order and does not speak English. Do not worry he understands your order perfectly. One of the best places to eat in the LES and my favorite French restaurant. This is good home cooked French food. I highly recommend one of their many excellent french dishes like quiche, duck confet dishes, lentil stew, or even their burger. 3. The Square Diner. 33 Leonard Street, TriBeCa. Another top low cost high taste menu. Large omelet selection and for those more health conscious an all egg white version for the same price. Giant menu with all types of sandwiches, breakfasts, hot plates, and salads. Best fries in TriBeCa. Not a 24 hour diner, Square Diner is open Mon-Fri: 6am-9pm and Sat-Sun: 7:30am-4pm.
2. Cup & Saucer. 89 Canal Street, Chinatown. When it comes to deals in New York City, no diner is this good for the price. Good size portions and breakfasts specials are all under $6. Everything here tastes good so order whatever you want from the menu.
1. Veselka. 144 2nd Avenue, East Village. Veselka is well know for their Ukrainian homestyle food. Try the meat stuffed cabbage, the grilled Ukrainian Kielbasa, one of 7 type of pierogi (a Ukrainian dumpling steamed or fried), or a hearty stew on the coldest winter days called bigos made from kielbasa, pork, sauerkraut, and onions.
