NYC’s 10 Best Beer Gardens and Beer Halls

Like NYC burger restaurants, New York City beer gardens and beer halls have become a craze.  NY beer bars come in all forms from traditional beer gardens and halls with picnic table seating to more upscale versions with a view, but they all have on thing in common, cold beer on tap.  Beer gardens and beer halls were made for true beer lovers.  Go to the NY German themed beer gardens and beer halls for the best Octoberfest celebrations, a 16 to 18 day drinking festival from the end of September to the beginning of October.

BiergartenThe Standard New York, 848 Washington Street, Meatpacking District.  This is considered one of New York City’s more upscale beer gardens located in the heart of the Meatpacking District, an area on the west side known for NY nightlife with fine dining and the heart of the NY club scene.  Unlike other NYC beer gardens, this outdoor beer garden is attached to the boutique hotel, The Standard, well known for its views and providing particularly interesting scenery to and especially from the floor to ceiling glass windowed rooms of the High Line pedestrian crowd and the rest of New York City.  Not a huge beer selection but does the trick in this area of town.

Hofbräu Bierhaus NYC712 3rd Avenue, between 44th St & 45th Street, Midtown East.  An indoor NY beer hall with a Hofbräu beer selection.  I few blocks away from Grand Central with few other decent bars around so there is always a large after work crowd.  The beers are on the more expensive side at about $16 per liter.  Like all other German pubs and beer gardens a perfect celebration spot for Octoberfest.

Bier International2099 Frederick Douglass Boulevard at 113th Street, Harlem.  The only beer garden in Harlem.  Large German beer and wine selection.  Decent sized indoor NY beer garden with front windows that fully open on nice days for the open air feel of more traditional beer gardens.  The wall artwork features the word beer in over 20 languages.  Friendly bartenders and the best food of any NY beer garden.  For starters, try the Parmesan truffle fries.

Radegast Hall & Biergarten113 N 3rd Street, between Wythe Ave & Berry Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  The go to beer garden in Williamsburg.  The beer list is huge and mostly German.  Live music, great beer, and a classic German style beer hall and beer garden complete with picnic table style outdoor seating.   Liters are $13 and up.

Loreley Restaurant & Biergarten7 Rivington Street, between Chrystie Street & Freeman Alley, Lower East Side.  A smaller NY beer garden, German style with many German beers on draft, with around 20 outdoor picnic tables.  Liters between $14 and $16.  Like some other places in the area like Dark Room on Ludlow Street, always a uniqueness to the crowd, because it never looks the same.
