In New York City ice cream is a summer staple to keep you cool on those extra hot days. Some of my fondest memories as a ch is eating cold ice cream in Central Park.
il laboratorio del gelato. 188 Ludlow Street at Houston Street, LES. The New York City Gelato Shop recently opened in the bottom of the Ludlow highrise apartment building on the corner of Houston and Ludlow St across from Katz Deli. This space has an industrial look with exposed pipes and concrete flooring. Behind a counter, a huge space exists where all of the flavors are made. Windows on the Ludlow St. side allow you to watch the gelato making process. Huge lines form here, a definite summer crowd pleaser for the LES.
Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. 65 Bayard St # B, between Mott Street & Bowery, Chinatown. Chinese flavored ice cream with unique ice cream varieties including black sesame, green tea, almond cookie, egg custard, lychee, and more. A staple dessert shop in Chinatown. Weekends can be very crowded here.
Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. 97 Commercial Street, Brooklyn. One of the best hot summer walking trips is to walk the Brooklyn Bridge, eat a slice on NY pizza at Grimadli’s and top it off with ice cream from Booklyn Ice Cream Factory. The summer weekend lines can be extremely long unless you come when they first open. Be patient the ice cream is delicious.
Ronnybrook Milk Bar. Chelsea Market, 75 9th Avenue, Chelsea. A third generation local dairy farm, Ronnybrook Farm Dairy supplies the top quality milk to make ice cream, yogurt, infused milk, and more at this Chelsea Market Ice Cream Shop. Try one of their custom shakes, ice cream sandwiches, or a scoop or two on a cone.
