When we talk about a cheap date in New York City, we refer to one that costs less than 50 bucks. Let’s face it, we are not all Donald Trump but we want to impress our companion and have a fun date.
New York City’s 10 Best Cheap Date Spots and Suggestions
10. Dancing lessons at a local NYC bar or restaurant. Show you are adventurous and easy going by taking some salsa lessons. Try Salsa lessons available at Gonzalez y Gonzalez, 625 Broadway, Greenwich Village on Thursday at 9:00 pm and Saturday at 11:00 pm or SOB’s, 204 Varick Street, SoHo on Friday nights.
9. Take your date to a live taped New York TV show. For a change of pace, get free tickets to a TV show taping. Shows like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report tape later in the day, after 5pm, so you do not need to take the day off work to go. 8. Central Park stroll and a picnic for lunch. Central Park is good place to explore and get to know someone without spending huge amounts of money. If you really want to go all out, pack a picnic basket, and an old blanket. If you do not like the idea of a picnic, grab something from a nearby restaurant before you go on your walk. I recommend Burger Joint within the prestigous Le Paker Meridian Hotel on 56th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues or Guantanamera Restaurant, 939 8th Avenue between 55th and 56th Streets, with a 3 course pre-fixe Cuban lunch for only $15.95. 7. Meeting up for an Off-Off Broadway play after dinner. Look I am not a nut for plays but I have watched a fair share Off-Off Broadway plays the last 3 years. If nothing else they are polarizing, I either tend to really like them or hate them and want to discuss what I enjoyed or joke on how bad it was afterwords. Off-Off Broadway plays have the cheapest tickets (typically under $20) and are a good source of conversation with coffee or dessert afterwords. If it sucks, throw in some humor about an actor or prop that will have your date smiling and laughing. Perfect for a low key weeknight date with someone you have been seeing for a while. 6. Bleacher Seats at New Yankee stadium or the Mets Citi Field. You can go to a Yankees or Mets game without dipping into your life savings. Bleacher seats in the outfield are currently $14 each at Yankee Stadium and $11 for Citi Field. Grab a quick bite like a slice or two of NY pizza with your date before you go to cut down on expensive ballpark food. See: NYC’s 10 Best of NY Sports
