4 & 5. Staten Island Botanical Garden and Chinese Scholar’s Garden. 914 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island. 53 acres dedicated to nature in Staten Island with 20 gardens. Houses a rare garden, the first of its kind in the US, called the Chinese Scholar’s Garden. A one acre Ming style garden with elements from 18th and 19th century China.
3. Staten Island Zoo. 614 Broadway, Staten Island. This extremely small 8 acre urban zoo houses 220 species and over 850 animals total. For snake lovers they house one of the biggest North American rattlesnake collection in the world. Staten Island Chuck New York City’s groundhog for Groundhog’s day lives in Staten Island Zoo. This zoo is small and you cover it quickly. Come to the Zoo, go see the Chinese Scholar’s Garden and catch a bite to eat before taking the Staten Island Ferry back to Manhattan.
2. Staten Island Yankees. Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George, 75 Richmond Terrace. The “Bay Bombers” are a single A minor league baseball team who play on the northeastern tip of Staten Island. They are in the NY Yankees farm system. For the price of one NY Yankees game you can go to 6 Staten Island Yankees game.
1. Staten Island Ferry. South Ferry Plaza, Southern tip of Downtown Manhattan. The views from Staten Island Ferry are legendary so bring your camera. The ride is free so you can go anytime and do not even need to get off if you just want to see the view alone. Bring a jacket because it gets cold on the water.
