Moderately priced sushi restaurants in New York City
10. Soto. 357 Sixth Avenue between Washington Place and West 4th Street. More expensive than the others on this list, but good for a splurge. Beautiful presentation and a creative mixture of ingredients.
9. Sakagura. 211 East 43rd Street between Second and Third Avenues. Dine like a yakuza at this underground (and very hard to find) restaurant. Great sake selection here and plenty of Japanese dishes apart from sushi. A great place to impress a date.
8. Kasadela. 647 East 11th Street between Avenues B and C. Not really a sushi place, more like Japanese tapas. But excellent nonetheless and a must for fans of Japanese cuisine.
7. Gajyumaru. 1659 First Avenue between 86th and 87th Streets. An oasis of raw fish in a veritable sushi no-man’s land (i.e., the upper UES). Get the omakase here–a great value.
6. Edo. 9 East 17th Street between 5th Ave and Broadway. Might not look like much, but creative rolls and peaceful atmosphere. More of a middle-of-the-week place than a weekend destination dinner.
