NYC’s 10 Best Views of the City

5. South Street Seaport19 Fulton Street, Financial District.  Picturesque views of the Brooklyn Bridge, East River, and Brooklyn.  Watch the sunset from the end of Pier 17.  While in South Street Seaport see several old ships afloat courtesy of the Seaport Museum.

4. Brooklyn Heights Promenade. Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn.  No view of the Manhattan skyline tops this scenic NYC view from Brooklyn.  The Brooklyn Heights Promenade stretches for 1/3rd of a mile on Brooklyn’s shore.  On a nice night bring a date here after dinner for a romantic walk along the Promenade or bring your camera and take a postcard worthy shot in the daytime.

3. Sheep Meadow, Central Park65th Street Transverse Road, Central Park. Sheep once roamed this 15 acre field in Central Park called Sheep Meadow. Sheep Meadow was originally designed but never used for military drills when Central Park was first proposed in the late 1850s.  Today it is a serene place in Central Park to relax from the hustle of the city.  From Sheep Meadow, you see one of the best skylines of Manhattan.  The Sheep Meadow and skyline view is featured in movies like Wall Street, Fisher King, and Manchurian Candidate.

2. Empire State Building Observatory350 5th Avenue at 34th Street & Fifth Avenue, Midtown.  This is one tourist attraction that you have to do in your lifetime if you visit or live in NYC.  The Empire State Building Observatory is located on the 86th and another on the 102nd floor.  The lines are extremely long so be prepared to wait for at least an hour.

1. Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Center30 Rockefeller Plaza, Midtown.  This is one of the best tourist attractions located on the 70th floor of the GE Building and is open 365 days, everyday of the year.  It competes directly with the more famous Empire State Building Observatory.  I prefer this observatory over the Empire State Building Observatory, the line is never as long and the views are better at Top of the Rock.
