NYC’s 10 Best Views of the City

I still remember the first time I went to the Empire State Building Observatory when visiting as a youth.  To say the least I thought the view was breathtaking and I began to understand that New York City was something very special.  I thought so much must have happened here in order for so many tall buildings, cultures, people, and cars to be on this tiny island.  It was the first time I really fell in love with any city.  I have fallen in love with other cities since then but New York City will always be my first love.

10.  Hotel on Rivington. 107 Rivington Street, LES.  This is currently one of the hottest hotels in New York City.  At 21 stories, it stands as the tallest building in the neighborhood.  In the Lower East Side few buildings are over 4 stories.  This allows for a 360 degree unobstructed view.  To top if off, each guest room has floor to ceiling windows and half of them have balconies, ensuring a full view of the city no matter where you are.  Save up your change in the piggy bank and splurge on their penthouse suite.  The penthouse is three stories with an indoor and rooftop 360 degree view.  Also offers an outdoor jacuzzi and shower.

9.  Asiate Restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental in the Time Warner Center, 80 Columbus Circle, Midtown West.  The view over Central Park and Manhattan skyline from this famous French-Asian fusion restaurant is worth the price of a meal.  Remember this restaurant is known for their view, not their food so don’t expect to be blown away by the cuisine.  Keep your selections simple from the pre-fix or regular menu.  If the service is sub par, order another round and relax, you are here for the view right?  Eat at the romantic Asiate Restaurant to celebrate an anniversary, birthday, Valentines Day, or a special date with your loved one.  Make reservations by calling 212-805-8881.

8.  NYC Helicopter TourLiberty Helicopter Tours, Pier 6 & East River, Downtown.  A unique way to view Manhattan is by helicopter.  Liberty Helicopter Tours offer a 20 minute trip around NYC’s 5 boroughs, a quick trip around the Statue of Liberty, 15 minutes through Manhattan, or a private romantic nighttime helicopter ride over the city.  This is the most expensive way to view the city.

7.  Brooklyn Bridge Pedestrian WalkwayManhattan Entrance at Park Row and Centre Street, across from City Hall Park, Downtown.  Walk on the Brooklyn Bridge and take a few stops for great views of downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn.

6. Staten Island FerrySouth Ferry Plaza, Southern tip of Downtown. The Staten Island Ferry is the most scenic ferry ride in New York City.  It is a lesser known tourist attraction so you will not have to wait in line for hours like you might have for the Statue of Liberty Ferry. The other major difference is the Staten Island Ferry is free.  While aboard you will see the lower Manhattan Skyline, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Governor’s Island, and the Brooklyn Bridge.  Bring a jacket, even in warmer weather, the ferry ride can be windy.
