Thursday, August 26
J&R Musicfest Tech Expo. Across from City Hall Park at 23 Park Row, Downtown. Free weekend concert series and expo. Thursday includes the tech expo with live music performances Friday and Saturday. Call 212-238-9000 for more details.
8:00 PM – Central Park Conservancy Film Festival presents Taking of Saturday Night Fever (1977). Movies shown nightly from August 24th to August 28th in Central Park’s landscape, just north of the Great Lawn behind Mineral Springs. Space opens 6:30 PM, bring a picnic. No alcohol allowed and bags subject to search. Tony Manero (John Travolta) rules the disco dance floor.
8:30 PM – Come and Get It! – A Target Free Thursdays Concert at Lincoln Center with the Judy Carmichael Trio. David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, 62nd Street. Jazz and swing style music.
Friday, August 27
Taping starts 7:00 AM – Today Show Concert Series with Katy Perry. Rockefeller Center Plaza & 49th Street. First 25 people will receive a t shirt and the chance to meet Katy after the performance. Arrive at least an hour early to ensure entry.
7:00 AM to 9:00 AM – Good Morning America Summer Concerts with Lady Antebellum. Summerstage, Rumsey Field, Central Park (use the 72nd Street entrance at 6:00 AM). Lady Antebellum is a well known country music group from Nashville. Come early to ensure entry.
10:00 AM to 9:00 PM – Levi’s Wear What Fits Event at Bryant Park. 42nd Street at 6th Avenue. First 1000 women who donate old clothes receive a free pair of Levi Curve ID jeans. 1:00 PM concert with Janelle Monae, a 2010 Grammy nominee and other fun activities for women.
5:00 PM to 7:00 PM – Jazz Legend Fall Series at Whole Foods Market. 808 Columbus Avenue at 97th Street, Upper West Side. Concert series running every Friday from August 27th to Ocotber 29th. Honors the musicians who played at Mikell’s Jazz Club, a former resident of 97th Street and Columbus.
5:00 PM – J&R Musicfest & Tech Expo. Across from City Hall Park at 23 Park Row, Downtown. Free concert series and expo. Thursday includes the tech expo with live performances Friday and Saturday. Friday’s show features 4Troops, J Cole, Marsha Ambrosius, and Alexis Jordan.
7:00 PM – Iron Man presented by Air Force Movie Night at the USS Intrepid. Pier 86 at W 46th Street. Movie starts at dusk. Food and drink are allowed but no outside alcohol is permitted. A movie about the comic book hero who is an ordinary man named Tony Sparks. He designs and wears a protective iron suit that allows him to fly and gives him superhuman strength to fight evil. Movies shown nightly from August 24th to August 28th in Central Park’s landscape, just north of the Great Lawn behind Mineral Springs. Space opens 6:30 PM, bring a picnic. No alcohol allowed and bags subject to search. King Kong comes to NYC and falls in love with a blond bombshell.
