5. Solstice Celebration. Go to this free event on December 18th at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center in Central Park. Join the award-winning storyteller Regina Ress for candle-making from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. and multi-cultural holiday stories that celebrate the light in the darkness from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

4. Menorah Making in Central Park. Create your own edible Hanukkah menorah at the Belvedere Castle in Central Park.  Drop in Sunday, December 13th anytime between 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m for this free NYC holiday event!

3. Madison Square Holiday. On December 8th, from 4:30-6:00 pm, enjoy a live musical show and a tree lighting countdown at this free event in Madison Square Park.

2. The Three Bears Holiday Bash. Shows run until January 3rd at The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park at 81th Street and Central Park West), Manhattan. This is a variety show that celebrates the holiday season in song, dance, and puppetry from the stories of Hanukkah, the Night Before Christmas, and Kwanzaa. The Three Bears Holiday Bash is a great way to get in the holiday spirit. Tickets are $5 for children and $8 for adults.

1. Gingerbread Adventures at the New York Botanical Garden. 200th Street and Kazimiroff Boulevard, Bronx. Open the entire month of December from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm.  Your kids can learn about the different plant parts used to create gingerbread.  Only $8 for children.
