5. Tim Burton. Museum of Modern Art, 11 West 53rd Street, Midtown East. See the creative mind of Tim Burton from his childhood years to his professional life through over 700 pieces of rarely seen drawings, paintings, photographs, moving image works, concept art, storyboards, puppets, maquettes, costumes, and cinematic ephemera. This exhibit closes April 26th. Should purchase timed tickets beforehand as space is limited and tickets sell out. Tickets are $20.
4. Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 5th Avenue, Upper East Side. Accessing the past, this exhibit shows haunted work from various artists including the famous Andy Warhol along with young current artists. The works in the exhibition range from photographs, sculptures and paintings to videos, film, performance, and site-specific installations. This new exhibit recently opened on March 26th. Guggenheim admission tickets are $18.
3. To Live Forever: Art and the Afterlife in Ancient Egypt. Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Museum’s collection of Egyptian art has been world-renowned. The To Live Forever exhibition explores the Egyptian beliefs of life, death, and the afterlife; and procedures of a funeral, types of tombs and mummification. We have all been fascinated with this since our early elementary classes on Egypt and this exhibit will not disappoint. Open for a few more weeks, until May 2nd; suggested museum contribution is $10.
2. Whitney Biennial: 2010. Whitney Museum of American Art, 945 Madison Avenue, Upper East Side. 2010 is the 75th edition of the museum’s signature exhibition bringing together contemporary artists and displaying their works of paintings, sculpture, photography, video, performance and installation. Phenomenal show for lovers of contemporary art. General admission $18. February 25–May 30, 2010.
1. Picasso: Themes and Variations. MoMA, 11 West 53rd Street, Midtown East. Approximately 100 pieces of Picasso’s printmaking are displayed at the Museum of Modern Art. His work follows his experimentation and how it directs his artistic pieces. A different approach to Picasso and a must see for a Picasso enthusiast.
