5. The Keeping History Center. Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, Financial District. A new, permanent, interactive exhibit featuring the stories of Jewish immigrants fleeing oppression. A great experience for anyone interested in Holocaust survival and refugee stories. General admission $12.
4. Scandal Sandals & Lady Slippers: A History of Delman Shoes. The Museum at FIT, 7th Avenue, Chelsea. Open March 9th – April 3rd. Celebrating it’s 90th anniversary, Delman Shoes are leaders in women-wear. Show displays include the classic, glamorous styles from 1926. 3. Brooklyn in Prints. Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont Street, Brooklyn. To celebrate Brooklyn Heights Association’s 100th anniversary, the association has opened an exhibit of the neighborhood’s history and spirit through paintings, photographs and more. 2. Grateful Dead: Now Playing at the New York Historical Society. New York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West, Upper West Side. Opening March 5th through July 4, 2010, the NY Historical Society will show the first large-scale exhibit from the Grateful Dead Archive. 1. John Brown: The Abolitionist and His Legacy. New York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West, Upper West Side. The 19th century American abolitionist and hero who became famous from his unsuccessful raid at Harpers Ferry, Virginia in 1859. Advocating the fight for racial equality through violence, John Brown is named as the most controversial American of his decade. Explore pieces of history in Brown’s fight for civil rights.
