5. St. Patrick’s Day Parade. March. Fifth Avenue from 44th to 86th Street, Manhattan. Oldest parade in US, since 1762, in celebrating the Patron Saint of Ireland, Irish faith, Irish heritage, and the Archdiocese of New York.
3 & 4. Chinese New Year Events. Chinese New Year Firecracker Ceremony & Cultural Festival. February 14 in Mott Street, the Bowery, East Broadway, Bayard Street, Elizabeth Street and Pell Street. Watch the fireworks ceremony, dragon, lion, and unicorn dancers march through the streets with this festival that celebrates the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Tiger, on February 14, 2010. Chinese New Year 11th Annual Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade & Festival. February 21, 2010 in Chinatown along Mott, Canal, and Bayard streets, and East Broadway. The big Chinese New Year Parade includes over 5,000 participants.
2. Puerto Rican Day Parade. June. Fifth Avenue from 44th Street to 86th Street. 80,000 participants and up to 3 million spectators line the parade path. I have never quite witnessed a parade with so much energy, everyone is dressed in Puerto Rican colors, music is playing, people are dancing, and flags are waved everywhere.
1. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. November. 77th Street & Central Park West to 7th Avenue & 34th Street. The most famous parade in the US is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in November each year. The highlight of each Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade are the giant floats in the shape of cartoon and popular children’s characters.
