10 Best TV Sitcoms of All Time Set in New York City

5. The Cosby Show. See the Huxtable family, an upper-middle class African-American family living in Brooklyn, New York, in this comedy.  Filmed in 1984 until 1992, Bill Cosby was one of the creators and stars of one of TV’s biggest hits of the decade.

4. Sex and the City. Set in NYC, the ultimate woman’s show aired on HBO from 1998 until 2004.  Four women (3 in their 30s and 1 in her 40s) played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall, respectively, deal with a lot of issues on relationships and sex.  There are men in the show of course, ranging from Mr. Big to Steve types, and I can assure you, the girls go through all different types.

3. Honeymooners. Debuted in 1955, only 39 episodes aired, with the finale in September of 1956. Main character played by Jackie Gleason, and most episodes are set in a Brooklyn apartment. This old skool (!!) comedy will knock your socks off.

2. Friends. A comedy of a group of 6 friends in Manhattan dealing with life issues and minor issues.  All six friends have become well known stars – Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox-Arquette, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer.  Another long running show, 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004.

1. Seinfeld.  Nine seasons of Seinfeld from 1989 to 1998 created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld.  One-of-a-kind characters included George Costanza, Elaine Benes, Jerry Seinfeld, as himself, and Cosmo Kramer.  You can still see plenty of shows, now in syndication.  Whether you see if for the first time or for the 100th, you will always get a good laugh.  One of my favorites.

Which is your favorite? We would love to hear your comments.
