10 Best Reasons to Visit the Bronx, NYC

10 Best Reasons to Visit the Bronx

5. City Island. City Island, a small island approximately 1.5 by .5 miles, is located east of Pelham Bay Park.  A small fishing village, the island is known for its seafood restaurants and private waterfront homes. City Island’s single shopping street, City Island Avenue, is lined with seafood restaurants and antique shops. Take the City Island Bridge and grab a fresh seafood dinner from the local catch.

4. Bronx Zoo. 2300 Southern Boulevard. Located in the Bronx Park along with the New York Botanical Gardens, the Bronx Zoo, at 265 acres, is the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States. A beautiful zoo that tries to recreate the animals’ natural habitat.  Adult tickets are $15.

2 & 3. Pelham Bay Park and Bartow-Pell Mansion. Bronx.  Pelham Bay Park is the largest park in New York City at over 2700 acres.  Pelham Bay Park includes Orchard Beach, which is a large man-made public beach, as well as Hunter Island, Twin Island, and Two-Trees Island.  My favorite is to sit on the beach where my mind runs away from all the business of everyday life in NYC and I am at peace.  Pelham Bay Park also houses NYC and national landmarks with the 19th century Bartow-Pell Mansion and Museum and Glover’s Rock from the Revolutionary War.  The Bartow-Pell Mansion portrays life for wealthy and servants at a typical Mansion in New York City during the 19th.  Take a guided tour inside the mansion or stroll the grounds on your own.  Visit during the spring or summer to see the beautiful gardens.

1. Yankee Stadium. East 161st Street & River Avenue, Bronx.  The home park for MLB’s New York Yankees and perhaps the most famous sports team and stadium in the world. The Yankees and Yankee stadium are full of history thanks to Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, and many more great Yankee baseball players.  Today watch Derek Jeter and A-Rod play at the recently completed new Yankee Stadium.
