10 Best Novels Set in NYC

10 Best Novels Set in NYC

5.  The Age of Innocence.  Edith Wharton, 1921.  Nothing innocent about this one.  Best ending of any book on this list.

4.  The Great Gatsby.  F. Scott Fitzgerald, 1925.  Klipspringer is my idol.  His first name is Ewing.  See: NYC’s Most Infamous Crimes

3.  The Bonfair of the Vanities.  Tom Wolfe, 1987.  Sure, it’s trashy.  I always pictured Daryl Hannah as Maria Ruskin when reading this one.

2.  The Catcher in the Rye.  J. D. Salinger, 1951.  Everybody knows this one.  Best read sitting on a bench by the pond just off Central Park South.  Not many ducks there though.

1.  Bright Lights, Big City.  Jay McInerney, 1984.  NYC in the 80s–Tad Allagash-types, Heartbreak and Lizard Lounge, loads of Bolivian Marching Powder.  Unbridled hedonism.
