10 Best Art Museum Exhibits To See in NYC, February 2010

New York City has some of the most unique exhibits you will see in the world.  The first four listed below end this month and the others are ongoing until a later date.  Here are the 10 best and most interesting museum exhibits to see in New York City:

10. Paris and the Avant-Garde: Modern Masters from the Guggenheim Collection. Guggenheim Museum; 1071 Fifth Avenue. About thirty paintings from the Guggenheim Collection by artists such as Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, and more, as well as a group of sculpture by Constantin Brancusi and Alexander Calder. Exhibit will be up until May 12th.  Museum fee is $18.

9. Spider SilkAmerican Museum of Natural History; Central Park West at 79th Street. See golden-colored silk produced by more than one million wild spiders in Madagascar, 80 people and took about four years to create.  A magnificent display, unlike any other in the world.

8. Leonardo Da Vinci’s Workshop. Discovery Times Square Exposition; 226 West 44th Street. An exciting exhibit where you can see Da Vinci’s inventions brought to life.  You will also learn to understand some of the hidden meanings behind his paintings.  A must see.  Prices are $19.50 and closes March 14th.  Purchase tickets in advance.

7. The Butterfly Conservatory: Tropical Butterflies Alive in WinterAmerican Museum of Natural History; Central Park West at 79th Street. In parts of the world, the butterfly diversity has decreased mostly due to the environment and loss of habitat.  This exhibit has butterflies from butterfly farms maintained by environmentalists.  Enjoy their beauty close-up.  A great adventure for children.  Open through May 31, 2010.  Tickets are $24 for adults and $14 for children.

6. China Prophecy: ShanghaiSkyscraper Museum; 39 Battery Place.  This exhibits displays the changing Chinese landscape of Shanghai.  Photography, drawings and computer animation illustrates the ways the architecture is altering Shanghai.  A great exhibit to see, especially if you are a fan of architecture.  Through March 10; tickets are $5.
